Introduction

The INGV Library System consists of eight libraries: Rome, Bologna, Porto Venere (on the Liguria coast), Milan, Naples, Catania and Palermo, each of them being located in the local divisions of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. The facilities provide advanced services which support research mainly in geophysics and volcanology. The most significant activities, promoted by the INGV libraries, concern a digital library which allows authorized users to access nearly 500 journals on-line and an international open-access archive for geosciences (up till now 1900 full text documents are available)
