The central library - Rome

The central library of the national Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, founded in 1936, is one of the most internationally specialized institutions in geophysics. Its collections expand from Seismology and Volcanology to include Physics of the Upper Atmosphere and the Earth’ Interior, Geochemistry, Seismic and Volcanic Risks.

The library is open to the public also providing information retrieval for users with a form “Ask a Librarian”. The resources include: a photocopying service in the library respecting the most recent copyright laws, the access to books and journals and on-line journals, the Document Delivery service using NILDE and ACNP channels and the interlibrary loan.
Loan is not provided to external users except the ones using another library. In this case the library has to provide the same services, the correctness of the loan procedures and any possible damage or loss which may occur to the document. The library houses approximately 8000 modern books, 200 volumes with a historical value, 150 journals with an active subscription, 500 on-line journals and 7000 maps (geological, topographic and bathymetric maps).
